"Ranganui - see why the first trip failed." There appear to be two dates associated with this group of photographs; 1931 when the first trip failed; 1932 when they shot the pig with red hair.

Top left photograph (PA1-o-116-38-1). Group of Boy Scouts standing beside a motor car in a street. On the bottom of the print is written "Ranganui 1931 - the first trip failed"
Top right photograph (PA1-o-116-38-2). View across to a hillside covered with native forest where fog is beginning to gather. On album page to right of print is written "Ranganui 29/10/32. We shot a pig with red hair and the fairy folk sent down a fog which prevented us reaching the top of the mountain." On album page below print is written "Fog," and "Ranganui fogs."
Bottom left photograph (PA1-o-116-38-3). Boy with a gun sitting on the carcass of a wild pig. On bottom of print is written "Red haired pig." On album page below print is written "The Kill."
Bottom centre photograph (PA1-o-116-38-4). Man saddling up a horse. On album page below print is written "Transport."
Bottom right photograph (PA1-o-116-38-5). View across a landscape of dead standing tree stumps beyond which fog can be seen partly obscuring bush covered hills. On album page above print is written "Ranganui fogs."
