Album of photographs of the fire at J Ballantyne & Company Ltd department store, Colombo Street, Christchurch, taken November 1947 by an unknown photographer. Shows efforts to extinguish the fire on 18 November 1947, and the position of adjacent buildings in aerial views taken after the fire had been extinguished.

These photographs were used in the Royal Commission of Inquiry which was established to determine the cause of the fire and the culpability of both Ballantyne's management and of the local Fire Brigade
