Maps of Wellington central showing the physical condition of the buildings as: satisfactory; unsatisfactory but repairs practical; unsatisfactory with repairs unpractical; overcrowding of bedroom accommodation; and overcrowding of dwelling units in apartment houses. Volume 1 covers Berhampore, Newton and part of Mt. Cook; Volume II covers Mt. Cook, Mt. Victoria, Te Aro, Aro Street, Mitchelltown, and Lambton; Volume III covers part of Lambton and Thorndon.

Accompanying the maps is a 'Report on the housing survey of the city of Wellington, New Zealand, 1937' and 'Housing survey report, 1937, appendix no. 1 and appendix no. 2'. These describe the survey, its extent, discuss classification of residential buildings, tenant numbers, rents paid, population density, buildings numbers in relation to population growth, physical condition of dwellings and statistics on most of these subjects.
