Shows river with bush-covered hills descending to river flat, and mountains in background.
Dating: The road for vehicles across Bealey and Arthur's Pass was not completed until 1866, but Hurt's watercolours of the Bealey and Arthur's Pass area and surrounds, and his dated watercolour of Hokitika, 1865, suggest that he traversed the area on foot, like many others from Canterbury.
Location: Hurt's 'North branch, River Bealey' may possibly be the Mingha River, rather than the Bealey itself.
