Description

View of a woman hanging out the washing on washing lines on the roof of the Dixon Street Flats in Wellington. Photograph taken by John Dobree Pascoe in 1947.

Original caption reads: "The roof of the flats has more than its share of Wellington's noted wind."

"These flats were the first major highrise building and the first major apartment block built in Wellington after World War II. The block was designed by Gordon Wilson and Ernst Plischke for the Housing Construction Department, and contains 116 apartments." (Information from caption used in "Darling, I'm home!" display).

Exhibited in 'Darling, I'm Home!' exhibition at the National Library of New Zealand, 1 June - 5 July 1999.
