Lambton Quay looking north, Plimmer's Ark (or warehouse, to the right, in the sea) and Barrett's Hotel in the left foreground with couple on horseback, another couple standing on the footpath, also a cart and 2 soldiers
Title and date from pencil inscription on verso, which continues: "Plimmer's Hotel & wharf"
Attribution on stylistic grounds. Was previously attributed to C. D. Barraud.
Exhibited in 'Wide-Eyed: Early Images of New Zealand' exhibition of works by settler artists, held at the National Library of New Zealand Gallery, 18 July - 9 November 1997.
'Plimmer's Ark' was the hull of the wrecked barque Inconstant, with a warehouse built on the former deck. It was moored at the south end of Lambton Quay for many years, from December 1851
