Contains memo on Maori custom as to land titles, a skeleton history of the Church of England in New Zealand and a report on the condition of Maori in Canterbury for 1860 (typed transcript at qMS-1860)
Also notes written by `Manu Maori' (Stack?) about Maori land tenure and transactions focussing on Canterbury especially Kaiapoi and Rapaki. Notes re the initial difficulties of Maori in dealing with government regulations and their increasing knowledge (In Maori).
The legend of Tawhaki; Mythology; The Loves of Te Ponga and the maiden Huia
Photographs of named Maori (some are cartes-de-viste), missionaries, Canterbury Provincial Government, and other places.
Two letters from Stack: One to Mr Whitefoord, 1875 re the seduction of a Maori woman at Kaiapoi; the other, possibly also to Whitefoord, re Horomona and Paratene (of Kaiapoi?), 1875.

The notes on the original document that has been photographed seem to indicate it was written by Hoovr, Haines or Horne (unclear),described as a private in the 65th Regiment of Foot, presumably stationed in New Plymouth.
