Typescript of a diary written by Bryan McDermott [ca May-July 1917] describing his military training, the trip from New Zealand to England, via South Africa, time spent in England and then a brief description of his first few days in France. The bulk of the diary was written on the trip from New Zealand when he sailed from New Zealand on 2 April aboard the `Corinthic' with E Company, 20th Reinforcements of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force Typescript also contains a postscript written by McDermott's sister giving details of McDermott's death and a note on the appearance of the diary in a newspaper.
