Shows a rural scene with a two-horse wagon loaded with hay and led by a man, on the road in the right foreground. Beyond a gate and hedge is a field containing sheep in the left foreground, and cattle further off in the middle distance. On the background plain, the houses and trees of a settlement can be seen, with hills in the distance.
Inscriptions: On separate label, in sepia ink, except for the last word, in dark blue ink, in the hand of the artist: On the Waimea Road, Nelson, overlooking Stoke and Richmond by C D Barraud, Wellington.; Recto - bottom right - C D Barraud N Z 1889
