Horiana, a Maori woman from the Hawkes Bay district, wearing a korowai (tag cloak), photographed on 28 April 1888 by Samuel Carnell of Napier.
Meri Tipene-Walker identified this photograph as a portrait of Horiana Tarewa, wife of Hoera Rautu (October 2009).
Inscriptions: Marginal notes on negative - centre left - 28/4/88 Horiana
The korowai appears in other portraits by Carnell, and was probably owned by the studio.
