F Class steam locomotive NZR 248 "MacCallum Mhor", type 0-6-0T, with two men. Location unknown. Photograph taken by an unidentified photographer ca 1875, with the original balloon chimney, bell and wooden brake blocks.
This engine was built by Vulcan Foundry, England (maker's no. 736/75), went into service in September 1875, was written off in 1930, and sold. (Information from the 'Register of New Zealand Steam Locomotives 1863-1971' by W G Lloyd, 1974, page 56. See also caption at Pa1-q-101 (Godber Album vol 108, p 17): "As originally. With balloon chimney, bell, wooden brake blocks, 1875".
