Brigadier George Jackson Carey seated outside a whare, in negotiation with Wiremu Tamihana Tarapipi Te Waharoa and a large, mostly seated crowd of other Maori. A flag is raised by the whare and there is food being cooked in a pot, horses grazing to the left, and several pigs on the left. The associated text states that the drawing is `after Major Tupper'
