Description

Photographs of aspects of Easter Island, particularly views of various tablets covered in Rongorongo (hieroglyphics relating to the Rapanui language). One image is a copy of a painting showing Easter Islanders wearing ceremonial head-dress in front of statues; one shows a man with two young boys; and there are views of carved figures and implements. Most of the images show the Rongorongo on different stone tablets.

Source of title - Title supplied by Library

Maurice Crompton Smith was the son of Stephenson Percy Smith who visited Easter Island about 1903. Pencilled notes are written in Stephenson Percy Smith's hand-writing. A brief note inside the album states that some of the hieroglyphic stones are now lost, and there is no known deciphering.
