Convoy of trucks of the New Zealand Division at the base camp in Maadi, Cairo, Egypt, during World War 2, at the end of the North African campaign. Photograph taken by H Paton.
The New Zealanders were completing the last stage of the 2000 mile journey, from near Tunis, back to Egypt, after nearly a year's continuous campaigning. The roads of the camp are lined with men from base units, hospitals, and convalescent depots.
