Map of the proposed route of the railway between Rakauroa and Wairata, part of the Gisborne to Opotiki line, following the Koranga Stream and Waioeka River. Roads, including the Waioeka Main Highway, and streams and rivers are named. Heights above sea level and gradients are prominently marked. The family names of Te Hira, Rutledge, Hopes and Redpaths are marked along the route.
'Gisborne to Opotiki' is handwritten on the reverse.
A 2 page typed letter on headed paper, written by E.C. Glanville, accompanies the map and explains the feasability of the proposed route. Reference to the Works Dept. is made several times.
Details of this map which includes the title, date and surveyor's name and address, also Gisborne Land District, Cook & Opotiki, Waikohu County, is stamped on the top left.
