Dr Charles van der Plas, a member of the Netherlands delgation for the Tasman Tercentennial Celebrations, shakes the hand of Eruera Tihema Te Aika Tirikatene (later Sir), MP for Southern Maori, over the unveiled memorial at Tarakohe. Photograph taken on 18 Dec 1942, almost exactly 300 years after Abel Tasman sighted New Zealand, by John Dobree Pascoe.
