Description

Artist not identified.

A large medallion known as a soldier's penny. Bas relief shows Britannia standing at the left, holding a trident at her right shoulder, and holding a wreath in her extended left arm. A lion stands beside of her in the foreground. There are two dolphins leaping at the left and top centre, and a lion fights an eagle at the bottom. The name of the dead man is inscribed in a box at the right. Text on the medallion reads "He died for freedom and honour".
