Description

Lydia Myrtle Williams, reclining in a hammock with a book and a fan, in the garden of the house in Carlyle Street, Napier, circa 1889. Photograph taken by her husband, William Williams.

This image was amongst those in the exhibition `Lydia' at the National Library in Wellington in 1993. The caption read "The hammock features in many of the photographs taken in the garden of Lydia and William's Napier residence, and is often the centrepiece of informal social occasions. Interrupting her reading to pose for her husband, Lydia reclines in the backyard of their Carlyle Street Cottage, ca 1889."
