- Description
Panoramic view of Oamaru harbour looks seaward over the harbour with its two breakwaters. Within the shelter of the breakwaters are five sailing ships, three steamships, and a dredge, as well as three smaller craft and a rowing boat and buoy. There are two further ships out towards the horizon. There is a fence in the extreme foreground, three cows grazing on a hillside at the far right, and a horse-drawn wagon with two men seated atop it disappearing down a curved road at the far left foreground. Down on the shore at the left are two buildings and several rowboats drawn up on the shore. The South Island's east coast stretches away to the north at the left of the picture.
