Original family member to own the farm which became known as `Newfield' (located 5 miles from Balclutha), was William Moffat from Scotland who purchased the 622 acre farm `Glenbig' in 1884 from Alexander Cameron. In 2007 the property was owned by his great-grandson, Graeme Moffat.
In 2006 the property was awarded the New Zealand Century Farm and Station award to mark over 100 years of continuous ownership by one family.
