A view from the rising ground in front of the Hopper home, looking past the large tree and the house (on the right), with part of the garden on the left, past another large house and towards Hampstead Heath in the direction of Highgate.
This group of drawings (A-001-056/059) was prepared by the artist, before his departure from England in September 1839, to bring with him to New Zealand to remind him of his home.
This drawing appears to have been taken from close to the spot depicted in A-001-056 (showing the garden's gazebo), looking back in the opposite direction. The same area is also shown from the side in A-001-058, although that view shows wisteria or a similar climber growing over the house and the climber has not been shown in this view, nor have the contents of the raised flower-beds, although their outline is drawn.
