Description

Full length squatting stylised portrait of Te Rangihaeata holding a pipe or other object and carved by himself. It formed the lower portion of the central pillar supporting the roof of Rangihaeata's house on Mana Island, the house being known as Kaitangata. The image was about 4 feet high and had eyes of inlaid paua shell.
