Description

The French warship 'La Vire'. She was a barque-rigged steamer sloop of 1625 tons, built at L'Oreuil in 1871 for the French Survey Department. She took a French expedition to Campbell Island in 1874, and assisted in the rescue of passengers and crew from the wreck of the ship Surat, at Catlins River, January 1874.
