The diary covers FitzGerald's voyage on board the`Arawa' with details about ship life. She describes her tour of New Zealand, in particular the Wellington region, Dunedin and Christchurch.

Eleanor FitzGerald and her sister Fanny Elizabeth Dod left London and boarded the`Arawa' at Plymouth on 14 May 1891 and disembarked in Capetown, parts of Western Australia, Wellington, Dunedin, Lyttelton and then back to England on 4 September 1891.
