Typescript of deed purporting to show the sale of the South Island by eight Ngai Tahu chiefs to two Sydney businessmen, W C Wentworth and Jones Jones. Two deeds were drawn up. This one belonged to Wentworth. The original deed kept by Jones is held by the Library (MS0-Papers-4947). The wording is identical in both and both feature moko drawn by the chiefs or their representatives
