Full brown crushed goatskin, upper and lower covers with lettered border taking in quotations from the text surrounding a design of trailing stems with flowers and leaves encircling astrological lion and ram tools. Spine lettered in gilt with trailing stem, leaf and flower decoration. Green pattered endpapers with vignette of satyr. Top text edge gilt, fore-edges untrimmed. Original green cloth covers and spine covering of Harper & Brothers bound in at end of text, upper cover stamped in gold with colour illustration of shepherd, sheep and dog, lower cover illustrated with sheep, tree, shepherd's crook and table of astrological signs.
