Description

Shows roadworks being carried out on the Hutt Road. A rock rooter is at work behind a tractor, both driven by men, breaking up the bitumen on the road. Another man is standing by, possibly giving directions. Photograph taken by a staff photographer of the Evening post on 9 May 1939.

This was in the early stages of the widening of the pavement to the full width of the road and the banking of the curves.
