Description

K-Force Maori privates Api and Clendon enjoying a cup of coffee upon their arrival in Darwin, circa August 1951. Taken by a photographer for the `New Zealand Free Lance'.

Published in the `New Zealand Free Lance', 29 August, 1951, with the caption "Maori privates Api and Clendon enjoy hot coffee".

After running aground on a Masela Island reef in the Arafura Sea, about 280 miles due north of Darwin, with 570 New Zealand troops for Korea, the t.s.s Wahine was abandoned to the underwriters, and the troops, officers and crew were taken aboard the tanker Stanvac Karachi which came to the Wahine's assistance..."
