Claxby has been farmed by the Dixon family since 1852 when Marmaduke Dixon took up 6,480 acres between the Waimakariri and Eyre Rivers. In 2005 the property was owned and farmed by Richard Marmaduke Spencer-Bower and his wife Margaret. Richard is the great grandson of Marmaduke Dixon and son of Marmaduke Spencer-Bower.
