Lodge, Nevile Sidney, 1918-1989 :"Having a lot of fun with the prisons, aren't they?" "Yeah, they should hand over the whole mess to the United Nations - they've got a security council or something, haven't they?" "I see they suggest piping the Kapuni gas right down here to Wellington." "Well Taranaki will certainly pipe down to Wellington when we take the Ranfurly Shield off them on Saturday." "Hey! They're still selling beer at the old price up in Pahiatua!" "They are?" "Five and nine a gallon - mumble - say 28 to the gallon - mumble - say 100 miles - mumble - mumble -" "I've only got to buy 60 flagons of beer to make it worth going to Pahiatua to get it!" 12 August 1965

Description

In a series of cameos two men chat in a pub over their drinks. One of them has a newspaper and they chat about various headlines - an escaped prisoner, Kapuni gas, the Ranfurly Shield, the price of beer being cheaper in Pahiatua - this last gets them excited. One of the men quickly works out that he only has to buy 60 gallons of beer to make it worth his while to go to Pahiatua to get it.
