Description

An elderly woman, wrapped in a flax cloak, squatting in front of the palisades of a pa at Pouketuti (Puketutu), top left. Two canoe paddles with elaborate carving to the left and right. In the centre, a squatting child and to the right a carved mere with feathers at the handle, from Taupo. Angas was in the Puketutu area in mid-October 1844 and at Taupo in late October - early November.
