O class locomotive 54 was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia; went into service in December 1885, and was written off in May 1922. See 'Register of New Zealand steam locomotives, 1863-1971' by W G Lloyd, and 'Cavalcade of New Zealand locomotives' by A N Palmer & W W Stewart.
