Panoramic view from the water looking towards Wahapu. Bridge's house is the large one on the hill, left of centre, with a flag (the Red Ensign) flying. The parade ground, right of centre, close to the beach, has groups of soldiers parading. There are houses spread along the beach-line and several yachts on the water.
Compare the watercolour copy of this drawing by John Williams held at C-030-016 and the sepia copy, also by John Williams at C-018-020. There are also part sections of the drawing, copied as watercolours at E-320-f-013 and -012. There is another watercolour copy in Auckland Art Gallery, also attributed to John Williams, entitled 'Wahapu Bay, Bay of Islands.' The latter work bears some inaccurate identifications
The picture has a fold down the middle
Inscriptions: Recto - beneath image - title in pencil. Also artist's signature in pencil lower right, and 'Wahapu' in the sea area far lower right above the signature. Label glued to recto top left, with 'No. 27' in ink
