Description: Pencil sketch is a preliminary drawing for "Pencarrow Head, Fitzroy Bay" Plate 4 (no. 11) in "Pictorial illustrations of New Zealand", London, Williams, 1847. Shows a view looking west towards Wellington Harbour Heads from Fitzroy Bay, with Pencarrow Head protruding at the right, but not topped by a lighthouse as it is in the published lithgraph. Possibly the preliminary sketch for the watercolour, whose fileprint has the negative number 1/2-024747-F (Privately owned?) Dated from other views of the same area. Quantity: 1 drawing(s). Physical Description: Pencil sketch, on one side of sheet, 222 x 324 mm. (watercolour on other side) Provenance: Sold by McArthur & Company, auction, in 1987, to NZ Insurance, for their boardroom.
