Three vignettes. In the first one a perspiring runner on the track tells another he is 'keeping something in reserve for afterwards - if my coach can catch me he'll beat the living daylights out of me for coming last'. In the second, a runner wearing a medal explains to the man admiring it that he was so ashamed about coming last in his event he tried to drown himself and became the 1964 diving champion by mistake. In the third vignette an athlete is in a loose box beside the horses in the Olympic stables, explaining he was put there because the Japanese insisted he was a 'dark horse'.
