Mitre Peak seen from the settlement at Milford Sound
Artist is likely to be De Ritz, a pseudonym for H. T. Garratt, an Auckland signwriter and free-lance artist, who created hundreds of oils on board of scenic areas of New Zealand, usually working from photographs or his imagination. He sold his work through an Auckland dealer named Rifkin.
Inscriptions: Recto - title; Signature "De Ritz" may once have been on the recto, but has possibly been cut off, along with "de Ritz"'s characteristic title scraped out of the paint along the base of the image. Another work given to the Library at the same time is signed and titled.
