Description

The papers consist of:

Application form submitted by Gavin McLachlan; story of the Wairarapa McLachlans; rates assessment notice; article on Couruanen (1966); map.

Original owners were brothers Donald and John McLachlan who purchased land at the southern end of the 40 Mile Bush. In 1859 John settled on the northern portion of Tirohanga which he named `Coruanan', after their home in Scotland. In 2006 it was owned by his great-grandson Gavin McLachlan and his mother Ormi.

In 2006 the property was awarded the New Zealand Century Farm and Station award to mark over 100 years of continuous ownership by one family.
