Description

The frame for an "Aa" class steam locomotive, photographed circa 1915 by A P Godber.

Inscriptions: Album page - Frame "Aa" loco.

"Aa" class locomotives and their tenders were built by Baldwin, went into service in June 1915, and were intended for heavy haulage on the North Island Main Trunk Line. The tenders had double the capacity of the Addington "A" making longer runs possible. See "Cavalcade of New Zealand locomotives" by A N Palmer & W W Stewart (p 103).
