- Description
Ink sketch shows smiling Polynesian Islanders in grass skirts. Around a group at left are boxes of Morton's mixed pickles, London; W Gregg & Co Black pepper Dunedin, Rum, and Keen's Mustard. One man prepares a fire with a cooking pot; he wields a knife with the name "Pampa" written on it. Two others look on as a central figure in grass skirt and top hat extends his hand in greeting towards a European man at the far right, disembarking from a boat with a bag labeled "Carr... Mission". However the top hatted figure holds a weapon behind his back. Seated on the palm-lined beach, possibly to attract the European, sits a smiling native woman.
