Description

A view from the south end of Evans Bay looking north up the bay. To the right is part of Miramar Peninsula, with a hut and the mouth and exit structure of the tunnel built by the artist to drain the shallow lake at the lowest point of Miramar Peninsula. There are 3 small rowboats or canoes on the still water, and a further rowboat is pulled up on the shore to the right, in the middle distance. In the distance on the left are the hills of Roseneath and those to the west of the harbour (Khandallah) in the far distance.

Glendavar was J C Crawford's cattle farm at the North end of Burnham water. The tunnel was cut by Mr Crawford to drain Burnham water into Evans Bay, and was the first tunnel made in N.Z.
