Pencil sketch of part of the battlefield at Maketu showing the high land overlooking the tableland called Te Whare-o-te-Rangi-marere and the sandhills to the east of the Waihi Lagoon. Shows rifle pits of the Tai-Rawhiti on the flat by the Waihi Lagoon and the disposition of the 43rd Regiment and Arawa on the high land.
Map signed MD - author is assumed to be Captain Thomas McDonnell who was in charge of the Forest Rangers taking part in this action
