Description

View of a pohutukawa growing on the top of a large rock, near Piha Bay. Photograph taken by Albert Percy Godber, between 1915 and 1916.

Original print in Godber Album Vol 109, p 10 (PA1-q-102)

Inscriptions: Album page - Pohutukawa tree growing from the top of a boulder.

The tree provides a curiosity, sending a long root down into the ground for nourishment. See "Piha : a history in images" by Sandra Coney (p 37), in which she says the tree can still be seen among the houses on the lower side of Piha Road, past the lookout. (Her book published in 1997)
