Description

The diaries and letters contain an account of McCaw's experiences while on active service in Samoa, Egypt, Gallipoli, England, Belgium and France

In 1924 McCaw amplified the contents of the pocket diaries he kept during World War One and transcribed the letters he wrote to his family during this period into two foolscap note books. His son, Bob McCaw's transcript of these volumes was privately published by the family in 1998 under the title `The Tale but partly told'.

During this time McCaw saw action on the Western Front in France and Belgium until Oct 1917 when he undertook officer training in Cambridge.
