- Description
Shows a view towards a background harbour or inlet and distant hills. The location may be the Wadestown or Khandallah suburbs of Wellington. In the foreground, a carriage road leads to a gate in a wooden picket fence. The road both in front of the fence and beyond is flanked with trees, the nearer ones having tall trunks. The trees appear to be mainly introduced conifers. At either side, beyond the fence are small houses, the one on the left having a bay window, and the one on the right being of broad weatherboards, with a pitched roof.
Dated ca 1908, because of the framer's label originally attached to the frame in which the work arrived. Label reads: T Beadnall & Son, 62A Willis Street. Established 1878. Phone 1508. According to Wises directories, T Beadnall & Son was at the above address from around 1903 until about 1908. (Numbering of premises changed after that, although the actual location may have remained the same).
