- Description
A background of tree ferns and other New Zealand trees, with the triangular sail of a Maori canoe used as the base on which the title of the volume is inscribed. Three Maori hold the sail upright, one standing in a second canoe, and two others sit in a third canoe, all with variant carved prows. In the foreground stands another man, a kiwi feather cloak on his shoulders and a taiaha in his left hand. A quote from Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice, 'Mislike me not for my complexion ...' is in the bottom right corner.
