Description

Rough sketch of the coastline near the Waitaki River, South Canterbury. Along the edge of the page is a series of 5 comic views of Taiaroa, Malmanche, Wills, Mantell and Hughes, attempting to cross a river in a reed canoe (mokihi), which sinks with their weight. 'Ye commissioner' is Mantell himself. See also E-334-066 for the earlier episode of the sequel about the canoe or mokihi.
