White Terraces, Rotomahana, with steam rising from its basin, circa 1870s to June 1886. Taken by unidentified photographer.
Note on back of file print reads: "At the top of the White Terrace is an immense cauldron of boiling wter which overflows and runs down the terrace to the lake. On certain occasions, from some unknown causes, the water gradually subsides and laves the basin free from everything but steam. Shows the interior of the basin upon one of the[se] occasions".
