Description

Shows a long view of the Southern Alps, seen from South Westland, with the peaks marked. Mt [Elie de] Beaumont and the Agassiz Glacier are on the left (above Franz Josef Glacier, which is not visible), followed by Mount De la Beche. Mount Cook is the tallest peak, roughly in the centre, the Hooker Range further to the right, Mount Hooker, the 'Gray Range' in the distance to the far right, ending in the sea.

The moraine noted by Haast indicates that the Franz Josef Glacier had reached at least as far as the mouth of the Waiho River in a past era.
