Description

A profile view of Colonel William Hayward Wakefield, dressed in a frock-coat and holding a top hat in his right hand, as he appeared at his trial in 1826 for assisting his brother Edward Gibbon Wakefield in the abduction of a young heiress, Miss Ellen Turner. Copied from an 1826 engraving as an illustration to Irma O'Connor's book 'Edward Gibbon Wakefield' (London, 1929).

Compare a photograph of the earlier version of this view, (NON-ATL-0001). The stance and clothing are the same in the earlier version, but the face is somewhat different.
