Physical Description: Vellum, 229 leaves (2 columns, 24 lines), bound; 218 x 162 mm. Double column, usually about 24 lines to a full page, no ruling, written space c.155 x 120mm, written in brown ink in a rounded gothic hand, rubrics in red, music on a 4-line stave with a single line in red, capitals touched in red. Some early additions to the text from ff.12v to 17v.

Provenance: Executed in Italy in the second half of the 14th century. Made for a Franciscan house before 1399 since the Sanctoral does not include St Joseph whose feast was adopted by the Franciscan General Chapter in Assisi in that year. Cutting from a 20th-century Sotheby catalogue on upper pastedown. Listed in Quaritch catalogue 742 (1955), no.2 and bought in October that year by Thomas L. Seddon.

Some early additions to the text from ff.12v to 17v., Decoration: 1- and 2-line initials throughout in red or blue with contrasting penwork; one divided initial (4-line) with penwork on f.153v. Four decorated initials (5- to 6-line, 'L' is 9-line) crudely painted in red, blue, pink, and ochre with white tracery and with curving leaf extensions.
